(PNTU) - May 28, 2021, at the Biomedical Research Center - Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, a discussion on cooperation in genomic medicine development took place in the presence of Dr. Truong Dinh Kiet – Professor, Director of the Medical Genetics Institute (MGI), and other experts from the Institute and the Gene Solutions Joint Stock Company (GS-JSC).
Welcoming and participating in discussions with the Delegation of the Institute of Medical Genetics was the Board of Directors of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine and its Biomedical Research Center, which includes Dr Nguyen Thanh Hiep – Assoc. Prof., Vice Rector in charge of management and administration, Dr. Phan Nguyen Thanh Van, PhD - Vice Rector, Dr Pham Dang Dieu – Assoc. Prof., Vice Rector Emeritus and Director of the Center, Dr. Truong Cong Hoa – MMed., 2nd Specialist Doctor, Vice Director of the Center; Assoc. Dr. Tran Cong Toai - Dean of the Faculty of Fundamental Sciences and Basic Medical Sciences, and the center's unit leaders.
According to the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding, the University and the Institute will cooperate on four main areas. The first is developing programs for scientific research and international publication. The second is coordinating the organization of scientific seminars and conferences; the third is establishing continuing medical education programs, and the fourth is deploying related services. The University, the MGI and the GS Company had a thorough discussion about future cooperation activities as well as plans to develop genomic medicine in particular and biomedical research in Vietnam in general.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hiep and Prof. Dr. Truong Dinh Kiet discuss areas of cooperation
“With the vision to become one of the leading biomedical science research institutions on a national and regional scale, the Center is designated as the location for in-depth biomedical research, high quality training, technology transfer, and provision of services. The Center also gathers experts in various disciplines such as molecular biology, histology and cytology, microbiology and parasitology, genetic medicine, etc. for developing a cyto-biomedical research ecosystem. At the same time, the University is to maximize its strength of international cooperation to take on research projects of international scale. In view of our research database, measures will be taken to prevent disease and practical solutions will be provided to improve people’s health care,” Dr. Hiep mentioned.

This is the first step towards future cooperation with the Center of Medical Laboratory Examination (CMLE) under the University. Located in Tan Kien Commune, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City, HCM city, it is one of Vietnam’s most advanced laboratory test centers. Cooperation with units and businesses in biomedicine and health care is an opportunity to support researchers and harness the full potential of the Biomedical Research Center, which will become the Center of Medical Laboratory Examination in the future.
Dr. Phan Nguyen Thanh Van said: “With the strong potential of having the latest equipment in Vietnam and the ability to train highly qualified personnel for HCM city and the entire country, the Biomedical Research Center of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine has become a strategic partner of MGI and Gene Solutions. In
In the coming time, the University will cooperate with the two organizations to prepare material related to genetic medicine for the 14th Scientific Conference of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine. This will help Vietnamese scientists and people realize the importance of cell research in treatment and health care.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hiep led Prof. Dr. Truong Dinh Kiet and experts from MGI and Gene Solutions to tour the Center and explore its equipment.
Professor Truong Dinh Kiet and other experts expressed their interests in cooperating with the University in the 14th Scientific Conference. This will be an opportunity to endorse the discipline that is often considered too academic for the average person so that it will be accessible to citizens and health care-providing units.
In order to complete the chain of Training - Research - Service Application in the biomedical field, the Center will begin cooperation with research institutes, hospitals and businesses in Vietnam as well as around the world in the near future.
